this is a site to get some thoughts together to hammer out the creation of alive on earth.

Vision Statement / Mission: (sample statements)

  1. Alive on Earth distributes local stories from around the world via video and the internet. We provide communities who are under-served or might otherwise be passive subjects of international news coverage, with access to equipment, training, and a platform to tell their stories to the world in a frame of their own choosing.
  2. Alive on Earth is a non-for-profit that fosters community leaders to use 21st century tools, distributes local stories from around the world, fosters community journalism for under-served or otherwise passive subjects of international news coverage, coordinates access to equipment, training, and a platform to tell their stories to the world in a frame of their own choosing.

  • Openness / Open Source & Creative Commons attribution-noncommercial
  • (Fill in the blank)

  • Monitoring the state of video advocacy and community journalism.
  • Community journalism strategic framework development.
  • Curriculum enhancement for community content creation & open-source video tools.
  • Advancing technology tools through:
    • Open-source evangelism
    • Volunteer translation tools
  • Organizational capacity building & community problem solving.
  • Organizational consulting for external funding & sustanablity.

Plan / Roadmap: (these thoughts have yet to move to separate page)

  • Year 1 – establishing 501c3 status, making AiB & AiM independently sustainable by getting them to edit content, translate and post (AoE will provide advisory, distribution and financial support), ascertaining the state of video advocacy (by reviewing AiB, Video Volunteers, Witness, Political Campaigns), curriculum development for software editing and content creation (use Luck of Seven as sample content), initiate open source framework conversation for volunteer translation tools
  • Year 2 – curriculum experimentation and translation, expand programs to include south-east asia & north america.
